Shi’ite Militias Open Fire on Kurdish Civilians

One Kurd killed, four others injured

KHURMATU – Following a Shi’ite militia attack on civilians in Khurmatu on 28th June, tension has increased between the militias and Kurdish forces, with the Peshmerga arresting a number of Shi’ites.

On Thursday Shi’ite militia group Hashd al-Shaabi opened fire on a civilian vehicle in Khurmatu, north east of Baghdad, killing Saiwan Salih Ramadhan, a father of three.

Mohammed Fayiq, a Kurdish official from the town, confirmed the reports to BasNews and revealed that four other civilians were injured in the incident.

Clashes between the Peshmerga and the Shi’ite militias erupted after the shooting. Kurdish forces injured a number of militias and arrested others.

Abdullah Bor, a Peshmerga Commander from the Khurmatu frontline told BasNews, “We have captured some militias who are safe under the control of the Peshmerga.

“However, they won’t be released at the moment as we need to investigate the incident,” Bor added.

Yeah but KRG is not Islamic in any way, it's quite the opposite.

In fact, the most important revolutionary family of Kurdistan, the Barzani's, were anything but religious extremists.
''Mullah'' in ''Mullah Mustafa Barzani'' doesn't even have a religious meaning/purpose; he was never a mullah as in a cleric, it was simply a title given to him.

His brother, Ahmad Barzani, who lead the first 2 great revolts in the 1930's and 1940's, was said to have encouraged his followers to eat pork, drink wine, have a good free loving time and even advised them to pray towards Barzan, not Mecca (source; Invisible Nation).

Furthermore, how do you explain the fact that all the countries carrying ''Islamic'' in their name are backward and oppressive?
Saudi-Arabia, where the muslim prophet is burried, is the most brutal and backward of them all. And it's not like it's a sunni-only problem. Iran, a shi'ite country, is equally bad. The other majority muslim countries aren't that friendly either. Egypt & Libya used to be alright, but look how fast that changed.

You can not possibly deny that the Quran isn't, at some level, a source for all the evil. ISIS is literally following the Quran.

You have heard of Anfal right? Do I need to remind you that Al-Anfal is a chapter from the Quran in which the killing of infidels, the rape of their women, and the robbery of their possessions is justified?

Do I need to remind you that Islamists raped Kurdish Yezidi's girls by the thousands, including 2 month old babies?

How do you think Kurds became muslim in first place? What the Yezidi's are going through right now, the ancestors of muslim Kurds went through thousand years ago.

Yes, that means if you trace back your family/bloodline far enough, you'll find that your great-great-great-x10 niece of 3 months old was also raped by the original muslim invaders of Kurdistan, who were DIRECTLY inspired by their prophet Mohammad.

This is the hard, undeniable truth.

Fun fact: there is a saying that ''the Kurd is only a muslim when compared to the infidel.''
This is not a saying invented by Westerners, but this is a saying invented by other muslims; the Arabs, Turks and Persians.

Fun fact 2: the only statue of a muslim in Dante's Limbo (Castle) is Saladin, the Kurd. EVERYONE else in his works are declared Holy Christians. The reason he placed Saladin here is because of his humanity, chivalry and tolerance. Do you think the only good, worldwide respected muslim leader in HISTORY (1400 years) was like that because of Islam, or because of his Kurdish culture? If it was because of Islam, then how come he was and is to this day the only one!?

And you know where Dante put Mohammad, the prophet, in his works? In hell.

That should say enough :).

As long muslims are friendly to yezidi kurds and other minorities, there isn't extremism or atleast countereing extremism as much as it can, the law isn't mixed with islam, we get rid of the salafist/wahabi parties in kurdistan, spy on the mullah who spread hate and we can live side by side as kurds. That is what i hope as a future for kurdistan. If that is so i don't care what religion you have as long as we live in peace and of course educate the kurds abour other religions so that they won't call us devil worshippers anymore...

Wow, F**k Daesh. I just saw a video where they executed spies. First execution was an RPG fired towards a vehicle with four men inside. Second execution was drowning. Literally put them in a cage and lowered it down in the water. After a few minutes, they lifted the cage and the prisoners are foaming, mixed with blood. Last execution: seven guys are forced to kneel down with explosives around their necks decapitating them simultaneously.

I hope every single rat in Daesh f**king gets brutally killed. This was horrible to watch. To even imagine what Kurds have gone through with these animals.

Interesting article. according to sky news which has obtained its info from an Israeli news article Dabka, Saudia has proposed to Jordan $20 billion in return Dar'a of Syria and Rumadi of Iraq to be annexed onto Jordan making Jordan population 22 million people... It will save these people from the war and it works as a shield to prevent the extremists to reach the gulf states...

This article makes several foolish conclusions. The main one being that Obama's strategy is working. Then there's the foolish notion that all these groups will live peaceably together in one country when ISIS is defeated.

Mapped: The Islamic State’s Territorial Losses and the Beginning of a United Kurdistan

Kurdish forces in northern Syria, backed by U.S. air power, are providing a rare bit of good news in the fight against the Islamic State: a spate of recent battlefield wins that have pushed the militants toward their de facto capital in Raqqa.

The map below, from the consulting and risk analysis firm IHS, shows what those gains look like — and offers a sobering reminder that Washington still lacks a reliable Arab partner on the battlefield.

The map, which relies on open source data, illustrates how Kurds have pushed out of their traditional strongholds and begun to enter areas typically dominated by Arabs. Those wins have shrunk the territory controlled by the Islamic State and have shown that the group is far from invincible, despite its own series of impressive military victories in recent months.

President Barack Obama touted the Kurdish gains at a press conference Monday as evidence that his broader strategy for beating back the Islamic State can bear fruit. “ISIL’s recent losses in both Syria and Iraq prove that ISIL can and will be defeated,” Obama said, using an alternate acronym for the group.

The optimistic assessment glides over the fact that the Kurdish wins, as the Washington Post reported Monday, are another reminder the United States lacks an Arab — specifically, Sunni — military partner to take on the Islamic State. Moreover, many Arabs allege that Kurdish forces are carrying out a campaign of ethnic cleansing in order to lay the groundwork for a unified Kurdistan stretching from northern Syria into KRG. The map above gives a sense of how the arc of territory currently under Kurdish control might be extended to stretch into Iraq and encompass Hewlêr, the capital of South Kurdistan.

While Syrian government forces control a small strip of territory around the city of Hasaka, Kurdish groups mostly control the area of northern Syria running from Kobani to the Syria-Iraq border. The following map, from the Institute for the Study of War, shows the state of play in Iraq. The light green area in KRG represents the area under Iraqi Kurdish control.

A slight expansion of that green area to the southwest in and around Mosul would go a long way toward making a unified Kurdistan a reality. That, though, would require the Kurds and their erstwhile allies in the Iraqi military to retake Mosul from the Islamic State — a task that will be extraordinarily difficult, even for the fighters notching rare and much-needed wins against the group.
