Where are the Kurds? We don't need a joint operation, if we do that. We will concede Mosul to Iraqi Government. Mosul should be our prize.

only if properly armed, otherweise it would cost the kurdish forces too much,
if the peshmerga would attack mosul today with the current ninventory, even with us support, they may lose 2000 men or buit if they were properly armed, the loss rate would be 250 to 300 and even if this is too too gigh, it still better then what would be happen if they would attack right now
the lack of heavy maneuver firepower combined with no own CAS support in an urban enviremont would cost the forces a lot of men, there s simply no sense in it and as the united states wants the kurdish forces not well equipped, the kurds will on the other not stop one inch further, its simple as that,
the iraqi army does simply not deserve these weapons but if the united states believes otherwise, then let them try their luck with arabs,
we wouldnt face a single war in the middle if the advanced countries would not supply them out of greed.

Besieged Fallujah residents facing starvation, death amid conflicts

SULAIMANI – Residents of Fallujah are facing starvation and death as Islamic State (IS) militants are preventing them from leaving the city, besieged by the Iraqi army and Shia paramilitary forces.

Iraqi security forces have besieged the city of Fallujah, 70 kilometers west of Baghdad and on the Euphrates River, on four different fronts for months in attempts to regain the control of the city from the militants.

Member of the Iraqi Parliament’s Committee of Security and Defense, Hamid Mutlaq, said conditions inside the city have reached a level that residents are facing “genocide.”

Due the Iraq army’s siege, no food or medical supplies will be allowed to enter the city to prevent the militants from accessing the supplies. That has worsened local residents’ condition.

“Fallujah’s situation is a disaster,” said Mutlaq. “Tens of people have become victims of hunger and strikes every day … The people have faced genocide because they are targeted by Daesh inside the city and they face death outside the city due to bombardment.”

“If the government doesn’t take enough measures, we will send the case to United Nations,” he added.

Similarly, Badr Bloc head in Iraqi parliament, Qasim Aaraji, said more than 100,000 have been under siege inside Fallujah, adding Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi promised to launch operations on the city to regain it from the militants.

According to reports, nearly 3,400 people including 500 children have been killed and up to 6,000 others have been wounded since the Iraqi army besieged the city following the recapture of Ramadi last year.

Human Rights Watch (HRW) released a statement on Thursday (April 7) saying the Iraqi army has cut off supply routes into the city since the forces recaptured nearby Ramadi in late December 2015 and the al-Jazira desert area north of Fallujah in March 2016.

The report claimed residents of Fallujah said at least 140 people including children have died over the past few months due to lack of food and medicine.

Saadun Obeid Shaalan, mayor of Fallujah, said dozens of Fallujah residents were killed by the militants when they tried to escape from the city, their bodies thrown into the Euphrates River.

According to HRW, tens of thousands of civilians from an original population of more than 300,000 remain inside the city.

HRW quoted Iraqi activists who were in touch with Fallujah residents said the people were “were reduced to eating flat bread made with flour from ground date seeds and soups made from grass.”

According to the report, a 50-kilogram sack of flour sells for US$750 and a bag of sugar is $500.

The rights’ group is urging the Iraqi government to allow aid to enter the city and the IS militants also let the people to leave Fallujah.

“The people of Fallujah are besieged by the government, trapped by ISIS, and are starving,” said Joe Stork, deputy Middle East director. “The warring parties should make sure that aid reaches the civilian population.”

“The humanitarian picture in Fallujah is bleak and getting bleaker,” Stork added. “Greater international attention to the besieged towns and cities of the region is needed or the results for civilians could be calamitous.”

On March 24, the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) expressed concerned over the situation inside Fallujah.

"The humanitarian situation in Fallujah is dire and residents need immediate assistance," WFP spokeswoman Marwa Awad told the Thomson Reuters Foundation. "We are aware that no food is going into the city and that militant groups are controlling the remaining food supplies."

In April, President of the European Iraqi Freedom Association (EIFA) Struan Stevenson released a statement condemning the siege of Fallujah by both Iraqi army outside the city and IS prevention inside Fallujah.

“EIFA calls on the government of Dr. Haider al-Abadi, in line with his recent notable government reforms, to adopt immediate measures to bring food, medicine and basic necessities to the people of Fallujah and to resolve this humanitarian crisis,” the statement read.

“EIFA also calls on the UN, the US, the EU and its Member States, especially members of the international coalition, to take urgent steps to bring food and medicine to the people of Fallujah, including through air-drops.”

Spokesman of Iraqi Defense Ministry Naseer Nouri rejected claims the Iraqi army has besieged the city, saying the IS militants bar the civilians to flee as three corridors had been opened for them.

Nouri blames IS militants for using civilians as shelters to obstruct the Iraqi forces’ advance.

"The real siege is not by Iraqi forces," Vice News reported, quoting Nouri.

"The Iraqi forces are liberating, they want to liberate the city's residents who have been held hostage by Daesh (Islamic State) for more than three years. Daesh is the one really besieging Fallujah.”

US deploying B-52s to Middle East for first time in 25 years

By Rudaw 9 minutes ago

Hewlêr, Kurdistan Region - For the first time since the 1991 Gulf War against Iraq 25 years ago, B-52 Stratofortess bombers are being deployed to the Middle East to combat the Islamic State (ISIS).

This is according to a statement released by the United States Air Force Central Command, which revealed that a number of B-52s will be operating from the American Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar.

The commander of US Air Forces Central Command, Lt. Gen. Charles Q. Brown Jr., said in the statement that the bomber will provide the Coalition continued precision and air power.

"As a multi-role platform, the B-52 offers diverse capabilities including delivery of precision weapons and the flexibility and endurance needed to support the combatant commanders' priorities and strengthen the coalition team," he added.

He also said they will be ready to carry our airstrikes elsewhere in the Middle East if need be.

The B-52 replaces the B-1 Lancer strategic bomber which had been bombing ISIS in Iraq and Syria for months before being withdrawn in February and sent home for maintenance. Bombers of this kind are effective since they can loiter over war zones for longer periods of time and can carry larger payloads.

B-1s carried out 7 percent of all the American airstrikes against ISIS but dropped approximately 40 percent of all the bombs dropped in this campaign to date.

Unlike the B-1 however the B-52 cannot fly supersonic speeds and therefore cannot reach any part of the current battlefield in minutes like the B-1 can. However it can operate over any area for up to 12 hours and carry a multitude of weapons which can be deployed against ISIS.

Iraq is done. This cheap talk is nothing more then a power Grab by shia elites and hey will invest every efforts in destroying kurdish influence after they finished off the sunni resistance. The kurdish leadership should sit down and make some serious decisions.
First, the kurds should start an all out offensive against Hawijah and Mosul and the south of Shengal and take it at no matter what cost and then tell the United States in the strongest way and how it had been done in politics since the 7000 years that wars are not fought for humanistic reasons and that its time to find a solution WW2 style. The boundaries brought peace to Europe and the same will happen in iraq.
1. The city of Mosul will be separated into an eastern section unter kurdish jurisdiction and that the kurds demands the Tigris line and the Djebel Hemrin line as a boundary. Sunni arab residents who were settled there since the establishment of iraq will be considered as foreign population and relocated to areas under iraqi jurisdictin.
2. The kurds will open the Mosul dam gates in order to widen the natural boundaries. Iraq can then build a new dam south of Beiji.
3. The kurdish government will demand from the shia militias to leave all areas north of the Djebel Hemrin line. In name Sleman Bek, Amirli and Saadiya. All other iraqi forces will be disarmed.

Or kurds will face another war. As long as the kurds are part of iraq there will always be the danger of a new war. As I know how iraqis think that tey try to simply introduce a new constitution in which they will declare the KRG illegal. What kind of options will be left for kurds then ? And the next strongman will try to occupy kurdistan under the pretext that it is iraq like so many others. It doesnt matter what his name will be but be sure that we will see a new man. Maybe the next men are Ameri and Sadr. Their own political logic demands such a move . Even if no other state will recognize kurdistan, it really doesnt matter because then at least kurdistan is secured by International law and the iraqis cant use iraqi laws or iraqi arguments but nesude that, i am sure that once the kurds create these facts that a lot of countries will recognize kurdistan. Thats the only way to stabilize kurdistan.
