US Official: Iraq Turns Blind Eye to Iran Arms Flights to Syria
[
19:10] 13/Mar/19

PNA-Baghdad is "looking the other way" as Iran sends military equipment through Iraqi airspace to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's regime amid the ongoing conflict in Syria, a U.S. official said.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, called on Iraq to randomly search Iranian planes flying to Syria, and said Washington had complained to "all levels of the Iraqi government" about the lack of inspection.

"It's reasonable to stop the planes and inspect them," the official said, according to theAFP news agency.

"At least do some randomly and legitimately to see. They (Iraq) have cause to be suspicious. Instead, they are suspending their disbelief, looking the other way, and averting their gaze."

"If they really wanted to find out they would stop flights randomly, periodically, and actually look at them. And we are confident that they would find, and we have told them this, military equipment and weapons, ammunition, those type of things," he said according to the news agency.

Asked who in the Iraqi government Washington had spoken to about its concerns, the US official replied, "All levels of the Iraqi government."

The United States has persistently called on Iraq to inspect Iranian planes flying toSyria via Baghdad's airspace, despite Iranian insistence that they are only carrying humanitarian supplies.

Iraq has publicly announced having searched two planes, both in October.

The New York Times reported in December that Iran appears to have been forewarned by Iraqi officials as to when plane inspections would be conducted, thus helping Tehran avoid detection.

Iran has remained a steadfast ally of Assad's regime despite the conflict in his country, which, according to the United Nations, has killed more than 70,000 people since it erupted in March 2011.

Secret Iranian weapons ship crossing the Suez for Syria

30/3/2013 14:20:00

Ship raising a Tanzanian flag and carrying Iranian arms cargo is expected to cross the Suez Canal within six hours, an opposition source told Al Arabiya Saturday.

‘The ship is said to be carrying 8,500 tons of weapons and ground missiles from Iran to be given to the Syrian regime,’ the source said, adding: ‘It is scheduled to make a 'fuel stop' at a Syrian port where it will unload its cargo.’

The source also said that the vessel is owned by Syrians, although he did not specify to whom he was referring. He, however, said that the boat was registered in Lebanon and had links to the Syrian- and Iranian-backed Hezbollah.

There have been various media reports that the Islamic republic has been militarily helping the regime of Bashar al-Assad, which -- according to the U.N. -- has killed more than 70,000 people in the two years since the uprising began.

A Western official told Reuters earlier this month that Iranian weapons continue to pour into Syria from Iraq as well as other routes, including Turkey and Lebanon, which violates the U.N. arms embargo on Iran. Iraqi and Turkish officials denied the allegations.

The source also told Reuters that Iran’s acceleration of support for Assad suggests the Syrian war is entering a new phase in which Iran may be trying to end the battlefield stalemate by redoubling its commitment to Assad and offering Syria’s increasingly isolated government a crucial lifeline.

It also highlights the growing sectarian nature of the conflict, diplomats say, with Iranian arms flowing to the Shia militant group Hezbollah. That group is increasingly active on the ground in Syria in support of Assad’s forces.

He is an Arab, there are no differences between a Sunni and Shia Arab. Sunnis believe in the Prophet Muhammed, Shias believe in the Prophet Mehdi Hussain. Only difference.
Of course but what matters is their opposition to each other. Sect has become important these days .

Iraqi Shiite Hizbullah says member killed ‘defending holy sites’ in Syria

[9:31] 13/Apr/08

PNA - A member of an Iraq Shiite militant group was killed in Syria, an official with the group said Saturday, highlighting how the increasingly sectarian conflict there is drawing in its fragile neighbors that already experience unrest among religious sects.

Other Shiite militias in Iraq have acknowledged sending members to Syria, but it is the first time that the Iraqi Hezbollah has hinted that its members are fighting there.

The fighter, Afrad Mohsen al-Hemedawi, was killed while defending a Shiite holy shrine in Syria, according to the official of the Hezbollah Brigades, who requested anonymity because he was not authorized to publicly discuss the issue. The official said the man was killed on March 30 and buried on April 1.
An official statement from the group also confirmed his death.

The Hezbollah Brigades official said the public funeral for al-Hemedawi was designed to send a message to their Sunni militant rivals fighting in Syria that they will not abandon their holy sites.

Hawija protesters object to attitude of Tigris operation

Posted Image

The organizer of the Hawija protests has shown his frustration towards the attitude of the Tigris operation, while describing the government of al-Maliki as being that of a “tyrant and corrupt”.

Khalid Abaz, the organizer of the protests in the Hawija district told the NNA website “We have been patient until now, but I will let the Tigris operation know that patience has a limit.”

“The Tigris operation has been sent by the tyrant and corrupt government to force the situation to an end, but we will show our strong belief and esteem towards those who regard others’ freedom as threats on themselves,” Abaz added.

The statements of Abaz came as the Tigris operation forces has entered the district and tried to prevent people on continuing the protests.

Khalid Abaz stated that they protest peacefully and demand their rights, saying “We will never back down and the protests are getting wider each day.”
Part of the Sunni Muslims of Hawija has been protesting for more than four months demanding the release of the prisoners from both the central and Kurdistan regional government.

Confirmation of chemical weapons use in Syria

'Times of London' report quotes British defense sources; conclusions based on soil samples Britain smuggled out of Syria; sources could not tell if chemicals used by Assad or rebels.
Evidence of the use of chemical weapons has been discovered in a soil sample smuggled out of Syria, The Times of London reported on Saturday.
The report quoted anonymous British defense sources who said that "some kind of chemical weapon" was used in Syria but they could not tell whether the chemicals were used by Syrian President Bashar Assad's forces or by the rebels.
The finding was established by the British Ministry of Defense's chemical and biological research establishment at Porton Down in in Wiltshire. The sources ruled out that the chemical traces found in the soil were from substances used to control riots with one source saying, “There have been some reports that it was just a strong riot-control agent but this is not the case — it’s something else, although it can’t definitively be said to be sarin nerve agent.”
The soil sample was smuggled out of Syria in a secret British operation that was revealed by a report in The Times in March.
Use of chemical weapons in Syria was reported in an AFP report from Friday that quoted a Western diplomat who said "There are several examples where we are quite sure that shells with chemicals have been used in a very sporadic way."
The AFP report quoted another diplomat who said that "quite convincing" evidence was sent to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to back the accusations made against forces loyal to Assad. However, The Times report quoted a source who said the soil analyzed by Porton Down “did not point the finger definitively at the Assad regime.”
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said on Monday a team to investigate claims of chemical weapons use in Syria was ready to deploy within 24 hours and urged the Syrian government to give the go-ahead so work could begin.
Ban, who met the head of the global chemical weapons monitoring body in The Hague, said an advance team had been sent to Cyprus. "We are ready, it is a matter of time," he said. The full team will consist of 15 experts, including inspectors, medical experts and chemists.
The Syrian government is only willing to allow the UN to investigate what it claims was a rebel chemical attack near Aleppo last month. The opposition has blamed Assad's forces for that strike and also wants the UN team to look into other alleged chemical attacks by the government. According to the the Saturday report in The Times, the soil sample was believed to be taken from an area near Damascus.
Reuters contributed to this report.
US President Barack Obama warned Assad in December and later in March not to use chemical weapons against Syrian opposition forces, saying there would be consequences if he were to do so.
"I want to make it absolutely clear to Assad and those under his command: The world is watching," Obama said in a speech to a gathering of biological, chemical and nuclear weapons proliferation experts in March.
"The use of chemical weapons is and would be totally unacceptable and if you make the tragic mistake of using these weapons, there will be consequences and you will be held accountable," Obama said.
Obama reiterated his warning to Assad in a speech he gave in Jerusalem in March where he said "The world is watching, and we will hold you accountable." Obama stressed he would "not tolerate [Bashar Assad's] use of chemical weapons against Syrian people or transfer [of weapons] to terrorists."

Quoting limited to 2 levels deep
Who is Mehdi Hussain then? Why do they say Mehdi will return and save all Shias? lol...
you are confusing the shias with a sect found in Pakistan who believe the Mehdi(Messias, another Prophet) will come after Muhammed and he will be Pakistani(religious based nationalism).

Shias believe in Prophet Muhammed the only difference is they see Ali as the legitimate successor while Sunnis Abu Bakr.

Isn't it something like the Sunnis believe, that the successor should be chosen in regards to their qualifications, but Shias believe the successor should had been chosen after bloodline?

qualification = Abu Bakr

bloodline = Ali (actually he was the husband of Muhammeds daughter not a real relation by blood).
