Empty chest beating. Iraqi shi'ah arabs are good at making empty threats and. But they're not good at delivering them. They know they can't attack Kurds, meaningful way. Because that would be strategically dumb as F**k at this point and a massive waste of resources, and would only benefit ISIS. For every 1-2 ISIS member they kill, they make 200 military music videos.

They want Iraq to be together. They're Iraqi unitary nationalists. They consider SK a part of the state of Iraq.

There is a difference between ethnic homelands and states. Before 1921 , it was a province controlled by British interim administration. And before that it belonged to the ottoman administrative province of Mosul Vilayet. Doesn't mean that it isn't a part of the Kurdish homeland however.

Did Iraq exist before 1921? haha That was my point. Prior to the Treaty of Sevres Iraq didn't exist as a independant nation-state, Kurdistan was simply brushed aside as a region.

Na im arguing about what lashgere said that SK was part of iraq prior to 1921 which isnt true, there was no iraq, prior to 1921 with its current fake borders, so saying SK was part of iraq during the Ottoman empire is a wrong statement coming from a Kurd that makes it even worst. according to your point we could also say SK was part of turkey and turkey was part of iraq and etc... well no it doesnt work like that, SK and iraq were part of the ottoman empire that is true so was syria lebanon and the rest of ME too... so we could also say lebanon was part of SK prior to 1921...

Iraqi Army Finishes First Stage of Training

US training will take six months in total

Hewlêr

The United States Embassy in Baghdad says that the first two weeks of training for the Iraqi army at the Taji military base have been completed, as they get ready to take on Islamic State (IS) militants throughout Iraq.

On Friday, the embassy announced that now the first stage of training has finished, US-led coalition military trainers will continue to prepare the soldiers in different locations. The training focuses on the mechanisms or war, and military leadership.

The training, announced by the US embassy at the start of the year, is also looking at the effective use of weapons and military equipment that will provided to the Iraqi army at the end of the six week project.

The soldiers will face a well-armed Islamic State, that sealed a huge cache of weapons after the Iraqi army fled positions in Mosul in June last year.

Last week the US Defense Department spokesman Col. Steve Warren told reporters that approximately 170 U.S. soldiers from the Army’s 1st Infantry Division are training four Iraqi army battalions near Taji. The effort began Dec. 27 and is expected to last six weeks.

The U.S. plans to conduct training at two other sites — in Hewlêr and Besmaya — but it will be weeks before those are up and running, according to Warren.

There are approximately 2,140 American troops in Iraq, 800 of which are engaged in providing security and force protection, and the remainder are training, advising and assisting the Iraqi army and peshmerga forces and president Obama has authorized the deployment of an additional 1,000.

Iraqi commission names corrupt ex-ministers; $330 billion missing

BAGHDAD, Iraq – An Iraqi commission investigating huge corruption in the war-torn country named three former ministers and 53 senior officials in its findings, saying that a whopping $330 billion of public MONEY remains unaccounted for.

The Iraqi Commission of Integrity (CoI) charged that former defense minister Hazm Shalan, ex-electricity minister Aiham al-Sammarae and former TRADEminister Abdul-Fatah Sudani were involved in graft during their tenures. It named 53 other officials involved in corruption.

At an annual press conference in Baghdad where the CoI reported on its work for 2014, the commission said it had investigated 17,616 cases of official corruption since its inception in 2004, and that 9,147 cases were probed last year alone.

It added that 4,129 corruption cases had been submitted for legal action, and that total FUNDS missing from government coffers amounted to $330 billion.

Some of that money has been transferred outside Iraq, the commission said, vowing that all of the missing FUNDS would be recovered.

The CoI did not investigate cases in the northern Kurdistan Region, which has its own autonomous government, or in Mosul and Tikrit, which have been under Islamic State (ISIS) control since the cities were captured by the insurgents in June.

The commission said that only 53 of 328 Iraqi lawmakers had returned forms declaring their assets, and that other high ranking officials who had failed to make the same declarations included the Iraqi vice president, the prime minister and eight ministers.

Corruption and nepotism remain huge problems in Iraq.

Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi has said that $45 billion are missing from last year’s national spending.

The impact of nationwide graft became apparent when the Iraqi army, which was built at a cost of billions after Saddam Hussein was ousted by US-led forces, collapsed in June before an onslaught by insurgents fighting under the ISIS banner.

The humiliating defeat revealed the existence of huge corruption within the military, where salaries were being paid to fictitious employees.

In an interview published by Rudaw early this month, Iraqi FINANCE Minister Hoshyar Zebari said the military was not the only place where corruption existed.

“There are a great number of them (ghost employees) in the Iraqi army and the ministry of interior. They also exist in the ministry of Peshmerga,” he said. “The ministry of defense has started carrying out some procedures to eliminate this kind of corruption. It has been decided to make everyone receive his own salary in person instead of lists,” he added.

Abadi fired 26 senior officers last month in a major shakeup of the military intended to restore public trust in the army.

A statement posted on the prime minister’s website said the shakeup was part of efforts to reinforce the work of the military on the basis of professionalism and fighting graft in all its forms.

The Associated Press quoted a government official as saying the sackings followed the findings of a probe carried out by an investigator appointed by Abadi to probe corruption in the military.

Iraq ranks globally among the world’s most corrupt countries.

Militia leader: Diyala under control, preparing for Tikrit and Kirkuk

Posted Image

KIRKUK, Kurdistan Region—The leader of the Shiite Bader Brigade said Sunday that his forces were in full control of Diyala and were preparing to drive the Islamic State (ISIS) out of the next two Sunni provinces.

“Today we announce the liberation of Diyala,” said Hadi al-Amri, head of the Badr Brigade in a press conference. “Our next appointment will be in Tikrit and in the same way we will liberate Kirkuk.”

Amri said that his forces were now clearing towns and villages from explosives that ISIS has left behind to facilitate the return of their residents.

Amri urged his fighters not to touch people’s homes and properties, adding, “Ayatollah Sistani has sent a message asking us to protect people’s homes and belongings because this is a moral and religious responsibility,”

Local residents in the towns of Jalawla and Saadiya—liberated in November—have complained that Shiite militiamen had plundered their homes and shops after the fighting was over.

The Badr Brigade is Iraq’s largest and most powerful Shiite militia that has operated outside government control since Saddam Hussein’s ouster in 2003 and involved in Iraq’s bloody sectarian war in 2005-2008.

Amri’s statement about preparing to liberate Kirkuk will most likely be met by Kurdish opposition who have their Peshmerga troops in the province with a defense belt that stretches hundreds of kilometers.
