Human Rights Watch: Abuses Being Committed by Shiite Militia

Human Rights Watch (HRW) has release a report detailing instances of abuses perpetrated by Shiite militia in Sunni areas.

The atrocities have increased in recent months with residents forced to flee their homes, or risk kidnapping or summary execution. Six residents of villages near Muqdadiya, Diyala Province spoke to HRW on condition of anonymity.

Five of them explained that they fled their homes in June when militias from Asa’ib Ahl al-Haqq attacked alongside government forces and volunteers. When they returned in October, after hearing that the militas had left, they found house burnt out and militia still in control of the area. They fired automatic weapons randomly in the street and the interviewees recounted the kidnapping and execution of three men.

There are also claims that over 72 civilians have been killed by militias and government forces in Barwana, Diyala. HRW is investigating the case.

Deputy Middle East and North Africa director Joe Stork said, “Iraqi civilians are being hammered by Daash(IS) and then by pro- government militias in areas they seize from IS”.

“With the government responding to those they deem terrorists with arbitrary arrests and extrajudicial executions, residents have nowhere to turn for protection”, adds the HRW report.

At the end of 2014, the Badr Brigades commander Hadi al-Ameri fired a warning at the residents of Muqdadiya. “We will attack the area until nothing is left, is my message clear?” Al-Ameri was transport minister in the cabinet of Nouri al-Maliki.

HRW also reports instances of arson committed by militias in Amerli, Salahaddin Province, after the retreat of IS fighters in October.

International media reported evictions, kidnappings and executions in the Baghdad Belt in December, while in January of this year militias allegedly arrested thousands of men in Samarra.

This interview took place when Abadi was a deputy. Iam not surprised at all no matter who becomes the iraqi prime minister, they all have the same mentality as their former beloved saddam.

Translation:

All neighbor have disputes.
If your neighbor gets assaulted do you take advantage?
Do you take their properties?
Nowadays our Kurdish brothers claim that there was a power vacuum which is the reason why we have controlled the land.
They have taken all the iraqi army's equipment.
Ethically if you take a neighbors properties you must give it back once they come back to their property.
You cannot cease your neighbors properties and claim it your own.
This is tougher than the enemy because this is your neighbor.
Your my neighbor you must protect me.
Kurds claim that the weapons that they have ceased are theirs and wont give it back. They state that its better we keep it than Daash takes it.
This is like giving your house to a neighbor and say its better you have it rather than the burglar.
Some officials (sunni arab) have negotiated with the Kurds and have informed them to take the disputed lands and extend their borders.
Daash and the Peshmerga cross on the same street without one assaulting the other.
Interviewer: A BBC journalist meets with one of the Daash commanders in one of the hotels in Hewlêr.
Interviewer: Hewlêr has become a base for the so called militants or rebels.
abadi fully agrees.

more weapons for Daash

Romania to supply weapons to Iraq

(Reuters) Romanian ambassador to Iraq, Iacob Prada, confirmed that his government is preparing to supply Iraq with various weapons and ammunition to support the security forces against Daash(IS) militants.

Prada said in a press statement Thursday that "the Romanian government is one of the first countries to have joined the international coalition to fight the IS."

He added, "The government supports its Iraqi counterparts and adopted a new mechanism, by which security forces will be equipped with various weapons and ammunition."

After the expulsion of IS militants from Iraq, Romania will begin to implement a plan for the reconstruction of Iraq, which includes development projects and various agricultural and industrial sectors.

Jacob's statement comes after Iraqi security officials accused Romania of selling weapons to IS.

Romania has denied the allegations and described them as "bitterly baseless."

Baghdad sends army to recapture Anbar town from Daash

Posted Image

Hewlêr, Kurdistan Region – An Iraqi Army force is fighting to recapture the town of Baghdadia, in Anbar province, from Daash militants who overran the area earlier this week.

“With the arrival of the Iraqi Army support force, security forces began operations to drive Daash out of the town” said Azzal Fahdawi, member of the Anbar provincial council on Thursday.

The central government’s deployment to Anbar province follows an appeal from local leaders and the Anbar provincial council to rescue the strategic town, which is 248 km southwest of the Iraqi capital.

After Daash stormed the town, the head of the local Baghdadia council called directly on Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi to protect refugees who fled Baghdadia

The local leader also warned Abadi of a potential massacre, claiming Daash had surrounded an area where thousands of people from Baghdadia were hiding
