Head of new Shiite group claims responsibility for Iranian exile camp attack, threatens more [17:24] 13/Feb/27 PNA - The head of a new Shiite militant group in Iraq on Tuesday threatened to carry out more attacks on a camp for Iranian exiles that was struck by dozens of rockets and mortar shells earlier this month. Tuesday's comments from Wathiq al-Batat suggest he shares the government's goal, even if he disagrees with its handling of the exiles. In a phone interview with The Associated Press, al-Batat said his newly formed Mukhtar Army group was behind the attack and promised more attacks to come. "It is time for the people of the MEK to leaveIraq. We have demanded that the government kick the group out of the country, but the Iraqi government did not respond positively to our demand," he said. "We will strike them again until they leave." It was not possible to independently confirm al-Batat's claim that his group was behind the attacks, but Iraqi officials and MEK members say they are taking his threats seriously. No other groups have taken responsibility. "Mukhtar Army" appeared on threatening leaflets delivered to Sunni households in aBaghdadneighborhood last week warning residents to leave or face grave consequences. - See more at: http://www.peyamner.com/English/PNAnews.aspx?ID=304470#sthash.Bcpb9DsV.dpuf |

He will never target shia Kurds because Kurds are generally seen by the Gulf as well Shia states just as Kurds. And politically Shia Kurds have nothing to offer nor the desire to offer Iran anything. Its more of a political than religious war. Iran trying to expand its influence through the Shias and Gulf states through the Sunnis. in other words, shia Kurds stay under the protection of the Kurdish banner. Alone this is the reason why the idea to attack Shia Kurds is ridiculous. And lets be honest, a relatively good a equipped Kurdish army and I seriously doubt that any of the Gulf States could create any danger for us. Edited by Kurdistano, Mar 1 13, 3:36.

i-racki finance minister tells protesters he is resigning![]() i-rack's Sunni finance minister told a crowd of Sunni Muslim protesters on Friday he was resigning, after more than two months of demonstrations against the Shi'ite-led government. The country's precarious sectarian balance has come under growing strain as i-racki Sunnis vent frustrations that have built up since the U.S.-led invasion of 2003 overthrew Saddam Hussein and empowered majority Shi'ites through the ballot box. Protesters are demanding Shi'ite Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki quit over what they see as the marginalization of their minority sect and misuse of terrorism laws to target Sunnis. "I came today in order to announce my resignation from this government in front of you," Rafaie Al-Esawi told a crowd of protesters from a stage in the western province of Anbar, on the border with Syria. He later told Reuters: "More than 70 days of demonstrations and this government has not fulfilled our people's demands. It doesn't honor me to be part of a sectarian government. I decided to stay with my people." State-backed Iraqiya TV cited Maliki's office as saying he would not accept Esawi's resignation until investigations into his "financial and administrative violations" were complete, without providing any details. It was Maliki's arrest of Esawi's bodyguards that ignited the Sunni protests last December. i-racki authorities said Esawi's bodyguards had confessed to involvement in assassinations carried out in coordination with security men employed by Sunni Vice President Tareq al-Hashemi, who fled into exile a year ago and was later sentenced to death in absentia for terrorism. The demonstrations in the Sunni heartland are fuelling concerns that the increasingly sectarian conflict in neighboring Syria will tip i-rack back into the bloody intercommunal strife of 2006-2007. Violence has intensified with the swell of Sunni opposition to Maliki, whose power-sharing government has been all but paralyzed since U.S. troops withdrew in December 2011. Al Qaeda is thought to be regrouping in the caves and valleys of Anbar and has called on Sunni protesters to take up arms against the Maliki government. Esawi was once a leader of armed Islamist group Hamas al-Iraq, which was active in Anbar. Source: http://gulan-media.com/english/t_detail.php?section=1&id=3013 |

Syria sectarian war could spark: i-racki PM i-rack's prime minister cautions that a victory for rebels fighting to overthrow the government in neighboring Syria will spark a sectarian war in his own country and Lebanon That would create a new haven for Al-Qaeda that would destabilize the whole Middle East. The candid warning from Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki during an interview Wednesday with The Associated Press was his strongest statement yet about the instability that could follow the toppling of Syrian President Bashar Assad. It comes as his government confronts growing tensions of its own between i-rack's Shiite majority and an increasingly restive Sunni minority, nearly a decade after the U.S.-led invasion. Wounded Syria soldiers treated in i-rack: spokesman'![]() MOSUL, i-rack: Four wounded Syrian regime soldiers are being treated at a north i-rack hospital after clashes with rebels on the Syrian side of the border, the i-racki defence ministry's spokesman said on Saturday. "Four wounded Syrian soldiers were moved to Rabia Hospital, which is close to the Yaarubiyeh border crossing" from Syria into i-rack's Nineveh province, Mohammed al-Askari told AFP by telephone. "There are clashes between the two sides inside Syrian territory, but as an i-racki force this is unrelated to us and we did not interfere," although fire from both regime and rebel forces had hit i-racki territory, Askari said. Baghdad has pointedly avoided calling for the departure of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, who is locked in a bloody civil war with rebels opposed to his regime, and has instead urged an end to violence by all parties. But US officials have repeatedly called on the i-racki government to halt Iranian flights to Syria via i-racki airspace, which they say are carrying weapons to Assad's forces. |

good news guys Iraqi Gunmen Kill At Least 33 Syrian and Iraqi Soldiers In Anbar Province, Official Says ![]() BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Unidentified gunmen killed at least 40 Syrian soldiers and government employees who were being taken to the Syrian border by Iraqi authorities on Monday after fleeing into Iraq from a Syrian rebel attack last week, Iraqi officials said. A convoy carrying the Syrians was ambushed in Iraq's western province of Anbar, where thousands of Iraqi Sunnis have been protesting daily for more than two months against the Shi'ite-led government and the perceived marginalization of their sect. The conflict in neighboring Syria, where mainly Sunni Muslim rebels are fighting to overthrow a leader backed by Shi'ite Iran, is whipping up sectarian tensions in Iraq and the wider Middle East. That has raised concerns of a return to the kind of sectarian strife that killed tens of thousands in Iraq in 2006-2007. "The incident took place in Akashat when the convoy carrying the Syrian soldiers and employees was on its way to the al-Waleed border crossing," a senior Iraqi official told Reuters. "Gunmen set up an ambush and killed 40 of them, plus some Iraqi soldiers who were protecting the convoy." The Iraqi officials said some 65 Syrian soldiers and government employees had handed themselves over to Iraq on Friday after anti-government rebels seized the Syrian side of the Yaarabiya frontier crossing. Anbar's Sunnis have been venting frustrations that have built up since the U.S.-led invasion overthrew the Sunni Muslim dictator Saddam Hussein and empowered Iraqi's majority Shi'ites. |

Iraq Army snipers shoot down 20 Syrian citizens![]() Justice and Reform Movement’s secretary general Abdullah Al Yawer accused units from the Iraqi Army deployed near the Syrian border of shelling Syrian cities, confirming that the military’s snipers targeted Syrian civilians leading to the death and injury of 20 people. He called upon the Iraqi government to forbid the army from firing at Syrian regions. “Syrian tribes living in Rabi’a region near the Iraqi border have sent us a plea requiring us to intercede with the Iraqi government to forbid the Iraqi Army from attacking Syrian cities and villages”, said Al Yawer in a release issued today of which Alsumaria got a copy. Al Yawer demanded that the central government “ask the Iraqi Army to stop targeting Syrian region”, expressing his amazement that “some units in the Iraqi Army deployed on the border with Syria would shell Syrian cities”. “The conflict going on in Syria is an internal affair and the Iraqi Army isn’t a party to it”, mentioned al Yawer, confirming that “Iraqi snipers have targeted Syrian civilians leading to the death and injury of 20 people.” Al Yawer requested Iraqi Army units deployed on the Syrian border “not to provoke the Arabian Tribes with such a behavior, to return to their barracks within the Iraqi territory and to avoid involving Iraqis in a battle they can do without”. Justice and Reform Movement secretary general asked Arabian tribes in Syria and Iraq to “enjoy more self-restrain” asserting “that he supports them and will not abandon them”. A police source in Nineveh declared on Thursday February 28 that four mortar bombs landed on Rabi’a border outlet west of Mosul, confirming that the bombs were fired from the Syrian territories. Another surface to surface missile was fired from the Syrian territories in Talghafar district west of Mosul while Nineveh’s Governor Athyl Al Noujaifi called upon the central government to deposit an official protest memorandum. Syria has been witnessing ever since March 15, 2011 widespread popular protests demanding reform and democracy. After the Syrian Security Forces and forces known as “Shabiha” faced the protests with unparalleled violence, the protesters demanded the fall of Assad’s regime. These events resulted in the death of more than 62 thousand persons according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. The Syrian Authority blames “terrorist” groups of organizing these violence acts. |
