Agreed. Neither Russia nor Iran would hesitate for a second in throwing us under the bus. |

I'm wondering how the Syrian government feel however. Since sure Russia and Iran have sway over Assad. Yet at the same time Assad has his own interests that may not exactly be completely aligned with that of Russia's or even Iran's. I suspect Assad sees the PYD/YPG as a useful tool in his eyes, atleast temporarily. |

IS is still one of the most powerful players in Syria. Yes, they have lost much of their leadership and core fighters, but they still have quite a powerful bite left. Up until now, Euphrates shield has been nothing more than a walk in the park. ISIS have retreated from pretty much all villages and towns without putting up much of a fight. In al-Bab tho, ISIS did in fact dig down to make a stand (visible from satellite images). A pretty smart strategy, given the fact that FSA and TSK now have to fight in a dense, urban terrain deep inside Syria (now, even the weather is on the side of IS). You guys can see the result. ISIS is no pushover and can hold it's ground against most armies in the world. |
