Monday, 24 December 2012 10:13 Shafaq News / Christians in Basra province decided, Monday to shorten their Christmas and New Year's Day celebrations to prayers and liturgy in the churches scattered in various regions of Basra, that coincide with Taff historical event and the martyrdom of Imam Hussein. Joseph Faraj lives Basra confirmed for "Shafaq News", that " holidays and New Year's Day coincided with reviving Muslims to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussein that make us renew solidarity with our brothers so we will shorten the celebrations this year to establish the prayers and attend Mass to express our feelings of sadness and grief for we represent one body.” For his part, Christian citizen, Osama Naseer Albert said "It's not the first time that the sons of the Christian community expresses solidarity with Muslims as we have already canceled Christians celebrations that coincide with the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Hussein and this is a social duty that contribute to enhance the spirit of love and cooperation and increase the rates of cooperation and harmony between different sects of the Iraqi people. " The Bishop , Jarjoa Enkoa, the Vatican ambassador to Iraq and Jordan had visited earlier in Basra province and met with the sons of the Christian community, government officials , clans and other political events of different people of the province as he praised the spirit of cooperation and harmony between the people of the Christian community and their fellow sons of other sects calling on everyone to the need to give priority to the spirit cooperation and overcome all of the events that tried to empty Iraq of an essential component, which is the Christian component. The sons of the Christian community in Basra shortened their Christmas and New Year's Day celebrations in the past year to establish the liturgy and prayers because it coincides with Taff event. |
| Russian Girenak Joseph, who visited Kirkuk in Kurdistan as a part of his tour throu the 1870 - 1873 AD, who published the results of his trip & his studies later in 1879, in the 4th volume in the Bulletin of the Caucasus department of the Royal Geographical Russian Society estimated Kirkuk's population as many as 12-50,000 people, & he emphasized that except 40 Christian families, the rest of the population were Kurds. As for The Turkmen & Arabs, they have not been already existed at the time. | |
