Shafaq News / The U.S. embassy in Baghdad revealed on Sunday, accessing intelligence information that indicted the existence of intentions to target U.S. interests in Iraq in the coming period, while called the citizens to take caution.

The statement of the U.S. Embassy reported for "Shafaq News" that "the intelligence that has been received by the U.S. embassy in Baghdad confirmed the presence of targeting U.S. interests in Iraq in the coming period."

The statement added that "the U.S. Embassy warns its citizens if they travelled to Iraq or moving in it as they should inform it with their steps”

"If contacts or Internet was disconnected, U.S. citizens must go to the embassy in Baghdad directly."

It’s noteworthy that the U.S. State Department warned its citizens, last August not to travel to Iraq unless for necessity due to the deteriorating security situation in the country.

A statement from the U.S. State Department said that "various armed groups, including al-Qaeda are still active in all parts of Iraq, despite the continuing Iraqi security forces operations against these groups," adding that "with the reduction of violence than it was the situation in the past years, but is still happening alot, especially in Baghdad, Nineveh, Salahuddin, Anbar and Diyala provinces. "

During the period from last September and to the beginning of January 2012, the U.S. embassy launched nine warnings on its website, warning its citizens from the presence of certain information on targeting U.S. citizenship citizens by armed elements in all parts of Iraq in general and the international zone (green zone), particularly while the total warnings during the whole of 2011 reached 11 warnings.

These warnings mention that intelligence received by the U.S. Embassy indicate that armed groups are planning to carry out kidnappings and assassinations operations against U.S. citizens.
