Wednesday, 06 February 2013 12:32 Shafaq News / The Turkish Foreign Minister, Ahmet Davutoglu said that Iraqi Prime Minister, Nuri al-Maliki is not in a level of which he can affect Turkey , and its contribution to the achievement of peace in the region." This came in response to questions from journalists, on Maliki's statements about Turkey recently, on the sidelines of his visit to the Egyptian capital of Cairo to attend a meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs Committee of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. Davutoglu said that “Maliki should rather turn first to the internal problems in Iraq, in which he did not achieve anything in national reconciliation and economic development fields during his seven years rule, in a state that is considered one of the world's richest countries in natural resources." The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey mentioned, " Maliki’s asking for help from Turkey until last year in the most severe circumstances, as he requested for Ankara’s’ assistance, when terrorist operations spread in Iraq," stressing that " Ankara supported him and helped to ease the tension when he was on the threshold of having a war with Syria." "Al-Maliki considered Turkey at that time as an ambassador for peace and an important player in resolving the problems," noting "that his last statements against Turkey in the recent months are a proof of how contradicted he is." Davutoglu explained that “no one can harm Turkey's ties with the Iraqi people, regardless of Maliki's statements." He stressed that "Turkey does not distinguish among the components of the Iraqi people and share with his pain and joy with them," and expressed "his hope for al-Maliki to release reasonable remarks from now on," advising him “to realize the value of Turkey’s friendship." |
