Kurdistan presidency announced on Thursday, January 7 that a truck loaded with aids was sent to Salahuddin province to be distributed for people damaged by floods, highlighting that a governmental committee was formed to see that those aids are successfully dispatched.

“The truck loaded with relief aids set off today from Arbil heading towards Salahuddin. Aids will be distributed to citizens who were damaged by the floods witnessed in many villages”, mentioned the presidency in a press release issued today, of which Alsumaria got a copy.

“Kurdistan leader ordered to send these aids” added the press release, signaling that “a higher committee including members from Internal Affairs Ministry, Health Ministry and Arbil province was established to see that these goods are successfully sent”.

United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq UNAMI revealed on Thursday February 7, that it was willing to undertake its first evaluation of Salahuddin needs in the following few days in terms of infectious diseases and schools damaged by the floods. It confirmed that losses and damages incurred by the province due to rain and water flow amounted to 230 million Dollars.

Salahuddin province witnessed floods on January 29 and 30 resulting in the evacuation of 3000 families as the flowing water washed away large farming lands, east of Tikrit. Al Mas’hak region north of Tikrit was considered to be “a distressed area” after more than 2000 houses were drowned.

The Parliament decided in a special session held on February 4 to present financial aids amounting to 2 million Dinars to every family incurring damage along both sides of Tigris banks.
