Dana Gas and Crescent Petroleum restore full LPG capacity in south Kurdistan 22/7/2013 10:33:00 Dana Gas PJSC, the Middle East's leading private-sector natural gas company, and Crescent Petroleum, the Middle East's oldest private oil and gas company, in their capacity as joint operators, have announced the completion of the rebuild of the LPG loading and dispatch facilities at the Kor Mor LPG Plant in southern South Kurdistan (KRG). The reconstruction and upgrading of the loading facilities at a cost of $15m was carried out following an accident last year by a third party tanker operator, and incorporates the latest LPG loading safeguarding and control technology which provides for significant enhancement in the safety and control over the LPG loading process. The Kor Mor LPG Plant now has the capacity to produce up to 900 tonnes/day of LPG which is once again available to the South Kurdistan and surrounding markets, and should give a further boost to the companies' revenues. Total Production and Investment Levels Total cumulative petroleum production by the companies in their major gas operations in the South Kurdistan has now reached 88 million barrels of oil equivalent from continuous production since October 2008 with a total investment on behalf of the partners in excess of $1bn, following agreements signed with the Kurdistan Regional Government for the Kor Mor and Chemchemal blocks in April 2007. This makes it the largest investment and highest cumulative production in the South Kurdistan's oil and gas sector. Daily production has reached a peak rate of 88,000 barrels oil equivalent per day (boepd), averaging 80,000 boepd, which includes 340 million cubic feet of gas per day and 15,000 barrels per day of condensate liquids, and there are plans for further expansion in investment and production levels, under discussion with the Ministry of Natural Resources. In total, more than 415 billion cubic feet of gas and 18 million barrels of condensate and liquids have been produced by the companies since the start of production in 2008, with the gas supply to local power stations enabling 2,000 MW of new electricity generation for the South Kurdistan. This has ensured almost continuous power supply for 4 million people in the South Kurdistan, in contrast to the electricity crisis in other parts of Iraq, and provided close to $10bn of savings in fuel costs for the government, with annual savings of $3.3bn going forward and major environmental benefits in cutting greenhouse gas emissions while transforming and energizing the economic and social development of the entire region at the same time. "We are proud to be the largest investors and producers in the South Kurdistan's oil and gas sector, and this represents the confidence of the GCC investors in the policies of the Kurdistan Regional Government," said Mr. Majid Jafar, CEO of Crescent Petroleum and Board Managing Director of Dana Gas. "The gas we produce has enabled billions of dollars of fuel cost savings for the government, and major economic and social benefits for the region as a whole. We look forward to further expansion of our investment and production in the region," he added. Mr. Rashid Al-Jarwan, Executive Director and Acting CEO of Dana Gas, added, "The restoration of the full LPG capacity is another important milestone in our operations, and we thank the KRG Ministry of Natural Resources for their cooperation, as well as our contractors, partners and staff. We are working with the KRG and the Ministry to resolve the outstanding issues including the receivables, as soon as possible." Technical Achievements The many notable technical achievements of the project include: achieving first gas in a record time of only 15 months, the installation of a 180km gas pipeline across challenging mountainous terrain that required the clearing of minefields; installation of new gas processing plant drilling successfully to tertiary reservoir formations at depths of 2,300 meters, importing and installing over 64,000 tonnes of equipment in over 3,500 truck-loads, with pipe material supplied from China and Thailand, and the state-of-the-art gas processing plant imported from the USA. During the project's construction phase, work opportunities were provided for over 2,000 Iraqi workers from all ethnic groups and sects, supported by expatriate workers from over 20 nationalities in the region and worldwide. Currently employing 460 full-time employees in the South Kurdistan, the companies have successfully implemented a nationalization programme, already achieving over 80% local staff ratio in their operations while implementing a major training programme. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Programme Crescent Petroleum and Dana Gas have also implemented a corporate social responsibility programme to support the local communities, including most recently the support pledged to 1,000 orphans in the South Kurdistan in the Anfal areas which were most badly affected by conflict during the past decades in partnership with the Barzani Foundation. In addition the companies have provided school supplies, drinking water treatment, generators and fuel enabling 24 hour electricity for the local villages, mobile medical units, and youth sports facilities. These initiatives are assisting the local communities in improving their standard of living, health, well-being, security and stability and the development of human capital in the South Kurdistan. DNO sees ‘exceptional results’ at southern Kurdistan oilfield By David Crouch A pioneer of oil exploration in southern Kurdistan (KRG) has reported “exceptional results” from its first horizontal well in one of the region’s main oilfields, with the well producing more than twice the maximum from existing drillings. The new horizontal well in the Tawke field is producing 25,000 barrels per day, Norway-based oil and gas company DNO International announced on Monday. Its previously most productive well produces 10,000 bpd. “We are pleased with the exceptional results from this well and excited about the prospects for horizontal drilling at Tawke,” said Bijan Mossavar-Rahmani, DNO’s executive chairman, in a statement. “Our next task is to optimise production . . . while assessing the potential of horizontal wells in terms of drilling efficiency, well recovery factor and overall Tawke field output capacity.” DNO holds a 55 per cent interest in the Tawke licence. Genel Energy holds 25 per cent and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) the remaining 20 per cent. Genel is led by former BP chief executive Tony Hayward. In 2011 he joined with financier Nat Rothschild to launch a cash shell, Vallares, which raised £1.35bn in a London flotation in June 2011 before negotiating a merger with Turkey’s Genel. Together with Genel, DNO was among the first to arrive in Kurdistan after the US-led invasion of 2003, signing its production-sharing agreement with the KRG in June 2004. The company found oil shortly afterwards. Since then, DNO has spent more than $800m developing the Tawke field and exploring for oil nearby, making it one of the biggest investors in the region. The semi-autonomous Kurdistan region of KRG sits on more than 45bn barrels of oil, making it one of the hottest destinations for oil companies in recent years. ExxonMobil decided to enter the region in 2011, followed by Chevron, Total and Gazprom. But enthusiasm has been tempered by tensions between the region and Iraq’s federal government based in Baghdad, which has led to border skirmishes and rows over oil. DNO’s shares climbed to a six-year high on Monday, up more than 4 per cent during heavy trading on the Oslo stock exchange. The company’s shares have gained more than 60 per cent during the past 12 months. DNO said drilling was under way at a second horizontal well in Tawke, and the company was preparing to start drilling a third. http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/caf9f298-f2e7-11e2-a203-00144feabdc0.html |

Kirkuk oil income worth 568 million dollars in June The total oil exportation in Kerkûk has reached $568 million worth being exported from the Kirkuk fields, according to the Ministry of Oil. The spokesman for the Ministry of Oil, Asim Jihad stated that the total oil exportation in June has decreased compared to the past months due to repeated damage to the pipelines of Kirkuk-Cihan as well as the decreased oil transportation through tankers to the south ports due to unsuitable weather conditions. “The total oil exportation is divided to Basra and Kirkuk, with the latter reaching 64 million barrels worth six billion and 231 million US dollars, and Kirkuk’s total oil exportation reached 5,800,000 barrels, worth 568 million US dollars,” Jihad added. “The mean value of sales per barrel is estimated at 97 dollars and 40 cents,” he added. Experts: The World’s Last Oil Barrel May Well Come from South Kurdistan Hewlêr , South Kurdistan – Even after setting aside 10 billion barrels for future generations and increasing production fivefold from current volumes, fiercely autonomous South Kurdistan (KRG) has enough oil to last more than 120 years, according to a local expert. Southern Kurds, whose self-rule over three northern i-racki provinces includes a regional government, a parliament, an army, a constitution and large control over oil production say they are confident that by the end of this year output will more than double from the current 200,000 barrels per day (bpd) to 500,000. “At this rate, the oil reserves of the South Kurdistan will last for 246 years; that’s in addition to 10 billion barrels that we should leave (untouched) for future generations,” says Erbil-based economist Dr Rebwar Khinsi. He adds that even after the South Kurdistan reaches its ambitious output target of one million barrels a day by 2015. the enclave – which is more like a country and at odds with Baghdad over oil, security and several other key issues -- still has enough oil to last 124 years. If his calculations are correct, it explains why oil giants like ExxonMobil, Chevron, Total and Gazprom are among two dozen foreign firms engaged in oil deals or projects in Kurdistan, in defiance of threats from Baghdad warning against direct production and export contracts with Hewlêr . Ashti Hawrami, minister of natural resources in the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), says that the enclave’s oil reserves are extremely important, because they add to the planet’s overall total. “The oil reserves of the South Kurdistan have not been added to the world reserve records yet,” he explains. “The world only talks about the oil reserves of i-rack, and the i-racki federal government does not recognize the oil data of the KRG,” he says. The KRG has pursued a largely independent oil policy, which has angered Baghdad. The Kurds have been in serious negotiations with Ankara for oil exports, which would feed Turkey’s own growing energy appetite and transform it into a major energy hub connecting the Middle East to Europe. But Baghdad fears that by gaining greater economic independence the Kurds are moving toward eventually declaring independence – something that Washington has discouraged and which would have enormous regional consequences because of the large and restive Kurdish populations of Syria, Turkey and Iran. Given the KRG’s vast and largely untapped oil reserves, international experts believe that the world’s last barrel of oil may well be extracted from the South Kurdistan. Rudaw |

I'm sorry, but none of these resources give us any influence over regional and world affairs whatsoever when they are under control of IOCs. That's just how it is. It is America who is really in charge over SK's resources, not us. Edited by Azamat, Jul 26 13, 3:08.

Seriously! I cant understand how people like you think? Why did KRG create these PSCs?? Why didnt they develop all theese fields by them self? Because they dont have the knowledge, the moneyn or the equiement to do it. The IOCs are taking ALL of the risks, geological, capital and political risks. They havent been able to export for over 6 months now!? How much money have they lost because of this? Are they leaving ? No! They keep pumping in more money and drilling more wells discovering more oil. KRG has an option of 25% in all fields, fields that IOCSs have paid hundreds of millions of dollars for and they give away up to 25% if KRG wants in. And when drilling is finished and the field is producing and they are able to export, then KRG makes 90$ per barrel sold for a 100$. Have som sence and say thank you to the IOCs who helped kurdistan to where they are today. And FYI the IOCs are from like 20 diffrent countries! Exxon, Chevron and Marathon are american, but the majority of the companies are small indipendent oil juniors from Canada, England and other countries. Jesus you are ignorant. |

Azamat is a confused kid who thinks he has knowledge about everything related to Kurdistan. He is just making things up and thinks that people will believe him when he states ''Research proved''. He doesn't know anything, and it is better that he stays out of all matters related to the KRG, since he is not able to contribute. He is also being anti-KRG in many of his posts, a while ago he even said that ''all capitalist filth in South-Kurdistan should to be flushed through the toilet''. He is not to be taken serious, I bet he also wears tin foil hats while thinking of conspiracy theories .

Exactly. Azamat is an extremely ignorant kid who thinks that Western companies are stealing everything. Or he is just jealous because the KRG is prosperous and wealthy. I do have doubts about him, he is being anti-KRG whenever he cans. And I, as a hardcore support of the patriots of the KRG who have brought wealth and peace to South-Kurdistan, can't stand people like him. The only thing he is doing, is spreading his anti-KRG opinions and views. I know you are anti-capitalist Azamat, but stop insulting millions of Kurds who live in the KRG and don't be such a butt hurt about it. Fact is, nations need each other to rebuild their country. Not only the KRG, but every country in the world. No country becomes successful by itself, so put this illusion out of your head. Even the most powerful countries are dependent on other countries. But you are young, I am sure when you grow up you will realize this. |

China Looks to Kurdistan as Growing Oil Partner by Armando Cordoba ERBIL, South Kurdistan - With China already sucking up more than half of the oil production coming from Iraq, the Kurds may be next in the Chinese energy cross hairs. The Chinese begun to sink their teeth into the Kurdistan region’s vast oil potential in 2009 when Sinopec acquired Addax Petroleum, which holds a joint agreement with Genel Energy to develop the Taq Taq oil field. To date, a total of 16 development and appraisal wells have been drilled in the autonomous southern Kurdistan (KRG), according to a report from The Oil & Gas Year Review for Kurdistan in 2013. “Sinopec is China’s largest oil company and has immense capacity to support the development of the downstream sector, both in Kurdistan and the rest of Iraq,” Yi Zhang, the chief executive officer of Addax Petroleum, said in the report. Recently, a Chinese delegation visited Rasheed Tahir, the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) minister of finance and economy, to discuss the investment potential for numerous sectors, including oil. Michael Howard, the adviser for the minister of natural resources, said currently he is unaware of any further Chinese involvement in Kurdish oil outside Sinopec. “The region has a lot of economic potential and we have a lot of investors from a lot of different countries. Having said that, they may well be talking to individual oil companies we wouldn’t necessarily be aware of,” he said. The Chinese Embassy in Baghdad did not respond to inquiries about increased vested interest in Kurdistan’s oil market. But it is clear that China is looking to Kurdistan to diversify its oil resources through Addax Petroleum, a subsidiary of Chinese state-owned Sinopec. “We hope there will be opportunities for Addax Petroleum and our shareholders, Sinopec, to consolidate with other operators in the South Kurdistan, to farm into blocks or to obtain equity positions through mergers and acquisitions activities,” Zhang said in the report. “China is now making aggressive moves to expand its role, as Iraq is increasingly at odds with oil companies that have cut separate deals with Its semiautonomous South Kurdistan,” The New York Times wrote recently. The Kurds offer more generous terms than the central government, but Iraq and the United States consider such deals illegal, it noted. It explained that the Chinese were able to undercut a majority of Western oil companies in the south of Iraq following the US.-led invasion in 2003, because the goal of their state-owned oil companies is simply to procure more fuel for China’s growing economy, not profit. Genel Energy targeting 140,000 bpd in Kurdistan [8:53] 13/Jul/30 PNA - Genel Energy growing production volumes from horizontal drilling in Kurdistan is exciting news, according to investment banking heavyweight UBS. It was revealed on Monday by operator DNO that the first horizontal well on Genel's 25% owned Tawke field produced 2.5 times more oil than the field's most productive vertical well. The well flowed at an equipment constrained 25,000 barrels a day, compared to a prior field record of 10,000 barrels. Another two horizontal wells are now planned by DNO at Tawke; meanwhile, it is also expected that Genel will drill its first horizontal wells at the Taq Taq field later this year. According to UBS analyst Daniel Ekstein horizontal drilling could help add more than 200mln barrels of ‘possible’ reserves to Genel’s current 445mln barrels of ‘proved and probable’ reserves. “The first horizontal wells were drilled in the 1920s but became more prevalent from the late 1980s. The technique is now commonly used to optimise drainage of fractured carbonate reservoirs such as those in Kurdistan,” Ekstein said in a note. “The frantic early days of the Kurdish oil sector meant more rudimentary, cheaper and quicker approaches were adopted. “As the industry moves into the development phase operators are increasingly focused on application of more sophisticated technologies (advanced 3D seismic; directional and horizontal drilling; acid and hydraulic fracking)." - See more at: http://www.peyamner.com/English/PNAnews.aspx?ID=316949#sthash.O73edlKi.dpuf |

Genel increases Kurdistan gas estimate July 30, 2013 9:07 pm By Guy Chazan Genel Energy, the oil explorer run by former BP chief Tony Hayward, is set to significantly increase its estimate for the amount of gas it has found in South Kurdistan, highlighting the region’s potential as a major gas producer. Genel will say that the Miran and Bina Bawi gasfields hold between 8 and 18 trillion cubic feet of gas, a person close to the company said – at least twice previous estimates of the fields’ gross gas resource. The new assessment, which will be unveiled when Genel announces its interim results on Wednesday, is based on readouts from appraisal wells drilled recently at Bina Bawi that were “spectacularly successful”, the person said. The estimate comes amid continuing progress between the Kurdistan regional government and Turkey on a landmark gas agreement, long held up by differences over pricing. The deal, which could be signed by the end of the year, would see Kurdistan exporting 10bn cubic metres of gas a year to Turkey – about 20-25 per cent of the country’s annual gas consumption. So far, there is no infrastructure for delivering the gas, though analysts think an export pipeline could be built within a year and the necessary gas processing facilities within 30 months. The gas deal is part of a wide-ranging energy partnership being forged between Ankara and South Kurdistan that will vastly increase Turkey’s influence in the energy-rich north of i-rack and boost its own energy security. It will see Turkish state energy companies take stakes in Kurdistan’s oil and gasfields, and foresees the construction of an “energy corridor” that would establish Kurdistan as a major supplier of both oil and gas to Turkey’s energy-hungry economy. The rapprochement between Turkey and the KRG comes amid continuing stalemate between Kurdistan and the i-racki federal authorities over control of the northern region’s hydrocarbon resources. Baghdad has denounced the contracts Kurdistan has struck with companies like Genel as unconstitutional. The KRG has suspended shipments of oil through the centrally controlled i-racki export pipeline because of a payments dispute with Baghdad, and is trucking small quantities of crude across the Turkish border by tanker instead. Longer-term, the KRG wants to pump its oil directly to Turkey, bypassing the federal export infrastructure. A pipeline it is building to the Turkish border will soon be completed, with analysts expecting first oil to flow by the end of the year. |

Hess seeking partners for assets in south Kurdistan [8:27] 13/Aug/01 PNA - Hess Corp said it was seeking partners to explore two fields in Kurdistan, sending its shares up 3.5 percent to a two-year high. Hess has a production-sharing agreement for the Dinarta and Shakrok fields in the South Kurdistan (KRG). Kurdistan began exporting crude oil last July, despite the Iraq government's claim to sole authority over crude exports. Hess plans to spend $550 million this year for exploration work, including shoot seismic and drill exploration wells there. It has also signed onto a production-sharing contract. South Kurdistan began exporting crude oil last July, despite the Iraq government's claim to sole authority over crude exports. Hess is among the companies who have defied the principal Iraqi government to carry out oil business there. Tony Hayward lauds success in Kurdistan [10:23] 13/Aug/01 PNA - There is "a lot to look forward to" in terms of oil and natural gas production from the south South Kurdistan (KRG), Genel Energy CEO Tony Hayward said Wednesday. Genel released its earnings report Wednesday for the second half of 2013. It reported a net profit before tax for the first half of the year of $109 million, up from the $22.3 million reported for the same time last year. "Genel has had a strong first half of the year making material progress in exploration, appraisal and development," Chief Executive Officer Hayward said in a statement. Hayward said the infrastructure for an independent export pipeline from the Kurdistan region should be finished by the end of the year. Development programs for the company's Taq Taq and Tawke oil fields in KRG are on pace for a net production of 140,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day by the end of 2014. The semi-autonomous Kurdistan has been shielded from much of the violence plaguing Iraq. Its government, however, is at odds with the national government over who controls what in terms of the country's oil sector. Nevertheless, Hayward said his company was in a unique position in the region. "We have a lot to look forward to," he said. - See more at: http://www.peyamner.com/English/PNAnews.aspx?ID=317184#sthash.9XkzjoHx.dpuf |

Turkey’s Genel Energy Stands by Oil Contract in south Kurdistan ERBIL, South Kurdistan – Turkey’s privately-owned Genel Energy says it stands behind its oil contract with the autonomous Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), despite political tensions between Baghdad and Erbil over the issue. “We are very confident in the legality of our contracts. Exxon, Total, Chevron and Gazprom share our confidence in their contracts and the prospects of the KRG (South Kurdistan),” a Genel spokesperson told Rudaw. The statement comes at a time when the KRG is getting ready to complete the Taq Taq-Khurmala-Fish Khabur pipeline by the end of this year, which Iraqi officials in Baghdad's heavily fortified oil ministry have threatened dire consequences if completed, according to a Reuters article. The pipeline will allow the KRG and oil companies who have contracts with the northern region to ship crude oil to the world without having to rely on Baghdad’s centrally-controlled pipelines. The new conduit has the potential to alter the balance of power in the region. Baghdad and Erbil are at loggerheads over the oil issue, with Baghdad claiming that oil contracts in the north are illegal and go against the framework of the Iraqi constitution, and Erbil insisting it has sovereignty over its own natural resources. “Instability in Iraq would not benefit either the Iraqi people of the companies who operate in the region, and hence is always a key consideration for Genel. However, Kurdistan, where Genel operates has been very stable for many years,” the spokesperson said. Genel is a small player in the oil game compared to the multinationals operating in Kurdistan. Nevertheless, it has played a role in the KRG’s active defiance of Baghdad in the oil dispute. In January, after the KRG approved Genel to ship fuel in trucks via the Taq Taq field, the Turkish company sold 240,000 barrels of oil valued at $22 million with German firm Select Energy. The deputy prime minister of energy affairs for the Iraqi central government, Hussain Shahristani, warned against this and said any exports from the Kurdistan region would be tantamount to “smuggling operations”. Despite this, Genel encourages the completion of the pipeline and hopes to use it to ship an estimated 45,000 to 55,000 barrels of oil a day, generating revenues of $300 million to $400 million, according to Genel CEO Tony Hayward. “We believe the pipeline will be a positive political benefit, allowing increased exports of oil from the South Kurdistan of Iraq with regular stable payments that will benefit Iraq as a whole,” the Genel spokesperson said. “Revenues will be shared between Baghdad and Erbil in accordance with the Iraq Oil Law of 2007,” the spokesperson added. http://rudaw.net/english/kurdistan/040820131 |

Lets make a deal, we will continue import your goods(which you are in a urgent need of) and in return allow us to export our oil via your soil. Recently Iran have also given access to Afghanistan to import goods via their ports. |

nope Iran importing anti-riot gears through Kurdistan borders Kurdpa: Following the tight sanctions and increasing international isolation, the Islamic government in Iran has turned to Kurdish borders to bring in essential anti-riot gears. Kurdpa report on Iran’s smuggling operations In the last few months, Kurdistan Press Agency reporters have obtained credible information in regards to illegal importation of anti-riot gears (Baton, Shield and Helmet) through the unofficial routes of Kurdistan Regional Government of i-rack into Iran. Kurdpa reporter from the city of Baneh, quoting one local resident stated that the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) is smuggling anti-riot gears from China using local merchants. Some of the actual anti-riot gears being smuggled. Another source speaking to Kurdpa on the condition of anonymity confirmed: IRGC is contracting out the smuggling of these components to dealers who bring goods from China into Iran and baton, shield, and helmet are among those items brought in. Due to the sensitivity of the matter and also the special security and police atmosphere in Kurdistan, the sources were not able to identify the companies manufacturing or selling the equipments. The mystery of the manufactures and sellers emanates from the claims that these equipments get purchased in the black market and get smuggled from i-rack through Kurdistan and into Iran in complete secrecy. One source from the city of Baneh familiar with the smuggling operation stated: The IRGC prepays the dealers, and in return, the dealers purchase the anti-riot gears from China and transport them - through illegal channels - to the borders of Kurdistan Regional Government in i-rack, and then to Iranian Kurdistan transport hubs and from there they are loaded into unmarked containers to Tehran and other destinations. Some of the containers that are used for transporting these smuggled goods. The source confirmed to Kurdpa that these containers, once loaded, get sealed and transported to unknown locations with special transit waiver from IRGC to avoid inspection at various check points. There are other available reports on other related illegal cross-border trades; however, due to lack of enough evidence, Kurdpa has refrained from publishing them. Currently, Iranian officials regard i-rack as their number one trading partner. In a recent Iran-Iraq officials’ visit in Tehran, the assistant secretary to the Iran-Iraq Trade Development stated that i-rack is currently Islamic Republic’s number one trading partner, and to increase trade between the two countries even further, we should have more transparent and simple bilateral banking and insurance exchanges. On the level of economic trade between Iran and i-rack, this Iranian trade official highlighted that aside from regional and political engagement that we have with i-rack, i-rack is our utmost important market, and we have been i-rack’s old friend and partner and this relationship will remain unchanged. Amir Shariati, the assistant secretary to the Iran-Iraq Trade Development emphasized i-rack’s regional role and the trade growth between the two neighbours. Shariati called the 37 percent growth in bilateral exchanges of goods a slap in the sanctions policy of the West against Iran. In the process of crippling sanctions against Iran, the official and unofficial trade routes between Iran and South Kurdistan have played a major role in relieving Iran from strident economic sanctions. http://www.kurdpa.net/english/index.php?cat=more&id=5790 |
