2nd pipeline on the way :D

Oil Firm DNO to Add Export Capacity from south Kurdistan

OSLO, Feb 20 (Reuters) – Norway's DNO said it would build a second pipeline to export oil out of its Tawke field in South Kurdistan, while it also reported a surprise quarterly loss due to issues at fields in the United Arab Emirates and in Oman.

The ability to export out of the South Kurdistan is vital to DNO's fortunes, because Tawke is its prize oilfield, estimated to contain a billion barrels of recoverable oil.

On Thursday DNO said it would build a second pipeline, with twice the capacity of the existing pipeline, to export oil from Tawke to the Fish Khabur terminal, from where oil can be exported via other pipelines.

The firm posted an operating loss of 434 million crowns ($71.9 million) in the fourth quarter, against expectations for a profit of 309 million, according to the average estimate in a Reuters poll of analysts.

The loss was due to a writedown of 869 million crowns for "goodwill and asset impairments" at the firm's operations at two offshore blocks in the United Arab Emirates and another one in Oman.

The loss compared with a profit of 1 billion crowns at the same time a year ago.

"We have an aggressive work programme planned for 2014 to drive up production and delivery capacity," DNO Executive Chairman Bijan Mossavar-Rahmani said in a statement.

DNO said it planned to increase the production capacity of the Tawke field to 200,000 barrels per day (bpd) by the end of this year. The field, it said, could even produce at a rate of 270,000 bpd, up from the current 155,000 bpd.

Shares in DNO were down 0.82 percent at 0802 GMT, which was in line with the Oslo benchmark index, down 0.63 percent. ($1 = 6.0382 Norwegian kroner)

KRG denies reaching agreement with Baghdad over oil issue

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) rejects reports that an agreement has been reached with the federal government regarding the exportation of Kurdish oil through Iraq’s national SOMO company.

Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs, Hussain al-Shahristani announced that Erbil and Baghdad governments had agreed to export Kurdistan’s Oil through SOMO co.

SOMO Co. is responsible for marketing and exporting Iraq’s oil.

However, KRG spokesperson Safin Dizayi announced on the KRG website that it is false that Erbil and Baghdad have reached an agreement.

“The last meetings between the Kurdish delegates and the federal government of Iraq did not have positive results. Both sides have discussed suggestions and the federal government has decided to be responsive towards KRG suggestions and mechanisms of exporting Kurdistan Oil. But there is no signed agreement regarding the exportation of Kurdistan Oil through SOMO Co.” said Dizayi.

Turkish Energy Minister: Kurdistan is our only solution to tackling gas prices

24.02.2014
Mewan Dolamari

The Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Taner Yaldiz, said that importing Kurdish gas is the only way to address the expensive price of natural gas in Turkey. So far 610,000 oil barrels from the South Kurdistan have arrived to Turkey.

Yaldiz told Turkish newspaper Sabah: “By Feb. 22 Kurdistan’s oil exportation to Turkey had reached 610,000 oil barrels. We have no other alternatives for production in Turkey, except Kurdistan’s oil.”

He also noted that this is the only way to tackle the expensive price of natural gas in Turkey.

“According to the oil agreement between Turkey and the South Kurdistan, Turkey will carry out explorations in 13 different places in Kurdistan until the end of 2014. 300 to 400,000 oil barrels per day are expected to be exported to Turkey,” added Yaldiz.

Kurdish gov't takes stake in Miran gas field from Genel Energy

ANKARA, Turkey, Feb. 24 (UPI) -- Turkish energy company Genel Energy said Monday the semiautonomous Kurdish government was taking a 25 percent interest in the region's Miran gas field.
Genel said the Kurdistan Regional Government exercised its right to take a stake in Miran production.

"Accordingly, Genel's working and paying interests in the Miran production sharing contract will fall from 100 percent to 75 percent, with the KRG's working and paying interests at 25 percent," the company said in a statement.

No financial terms were disclosed

The Miran contract area covers 293 square miles and contains gross resources estimated at 3.5 trillion cubic feet of natural gas and 95 million barrels of oil. Genel said it was working with the Kurdish government on a gas sales agreement for mid-2014.

Genel in 2012 paid $156 million to take on Miran assets from Heritage Energy Middle East Ltd., a subsidiary of Heritage Oil.

The Miran field was discovered in 2009. Genel said an early production facility is already producing 2,000 barrels of oil per day.

Barzani and Erdoğan agree on Kurdish oil exports

26.02.2014
Hemin Salih

A source from the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan has told BasNews that Kurdish Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani has made a secret agreement with his Turkish counterpart on Kurdish oil exports.

According to the PUK source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Kurdish PM Barzani secretly reached an agreement on Kurdish oil exports that will be implemented if Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki remains opposed to Kurdish oil exports to Turkey.

The source also reported that both the Kurdish and Turkish Prime Ministers agreed that if Maliki does not agree soon, they will start exporting Kurdish oil to Turkey within the next two months.

In recent months, there have been serious efforts from both Erbil and Ankara to solve oil issues with Baghdad, but thus far the problems remain unsolved.

KRG: We don’t have illegal oil pipelines into Turkey

03.03.2014
Hemin Salih

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has rejected claims that they are exporting oil to Turkey via illegal pipelines and stresses that they have yet to sell oil to their neighbor.

KRG spokesman Safeen Dizayee says that reports that claim Kurds are smuggling oil into Turkey through a 500m pipeline are false.

“A number of media outlets published reports accusing Kurdistan of smuggling oil to Turkey, we began investigating the matter and concluded that they are baseless reports. The areas of Kurdistan they speak of are mountainous and far from cities or oil fields, so where would a 500m pipeline take you?” asked Dizayee.

He also said that the KRG would not allow this to happen and that oil and gas exportation is done transparently and in agreement with Iraq’s federal government.

“This is why we reject these reports,” added Dizayee.

Baghdad has previously accused the KRG of using illegal pipelines to smuggle oil into Turkey, but has done so with no proof of it and the accusation was dismissed by Erbil.
