Turkey prepared to assist in export of South Kurdistan's oil ![]() 26.3.2014 ANKARA,— Turkey is ready to help South Kurdistan export its oil to world markets once oil storage tanks in the Mediterranean port of Ceyhan are full, Turkey's Energy Minister Taner Yildiz said on Wednesday. Once the tanks are full and there is an excess amount, "we would like this to be offered to world markets ... on behalf of KRG," Yildiz said in an interview with Turkey's NTV Television. "Regardless of the volumes, the oil will be auctioned and sold at world market prices. This could be done via Tupras or brokers in other countries," Yildiz added. Oil flow from the Kurdistan Regional Government's (KRG) pipeline via Turkey started in December and so far around 1.35 million barrels of oil have been stored in tanks at Turkey's southern port of Ceyhan. The capacity of the three tanks at Ceyhan allocated for Kurdish oil is around 2.5 million barrels. Copyright ©, respective author or news agency, Reuters |

No Supervisors Present on the Oil Fields of the South Kurdistan 27.03.2014 Zryan Abdullah Most of the companies working in the oil fields of the South Kurdistan are operating without the presence of supervisors to observe environmental pollution and the health of employees. An oil expert, who asked to remain anonymous, told BasNews that most of the oil extraction in the fields of the South Kurdistan goes unsupervised. “Oil companies only seek to extract oil and money,” he said. “They throw oil waste, containing up to 30% usable oil, into lakes and valleys. In Turkey, 10% of oil waste is oil, the rest is all water, but still they use it and benefit from it.” He stated that the oil waste damages the environment and poisons edible plants which go on to cause health problems for local people. Besides that, the waste renders the land unsuitable for cultivation and the water undrinkable. In villages such as Ilinjakh and Marjan, the water supply is becoming saltier each day. “These wastes need to be recycled and should be given to industries that can benefit from them, such as the fossil industry. Industrial sites should be opened specially to use the oil waste,” added the expert. He explained that, in the meantime, a concrete pool could be constructed to provide storage for the waste to keep it from having an adverse affect on the environment. http://www.basnews.com/en/News/Details/No-Supervisors-Present-on-the-Oil-Fields-of-the-Kurdistan-Region/16158 |

that is with turkey not iraqPresident Barzani defends the region’s oil policy 01.04.2014 Kurdish President Massoud Barzani defended the region’s oil policy and insisted the Kurdistan Regional Government has not acted against the constitution. Barzani explained that Baghdad and Erbil have agreed that both parties have the right to sign oil contracts until a final agreement on the oil issue can be made. Following the recent altercations between the two sides, Barzani warned that if Baghdad continues ignoring the Iraqi constitution and threatening the South Kurdistan, the region will have to look for alternative options. Despite the troubles Barzani kept a positive stance and explained that there is still time to solve the problems and return to following the constitution. Barzani said that Kurds hope for an Iraq that respects the wills of all people and does not allow an individual to become a threat to the country or its people or removes the meaning of statehood from Iraq. President Barzani received the members of annual conference of the Middle East Institute in Washington in Erbil attended by several academics, and politician, including Ms. Windy Chamberlin, the head of the institute and Ali Dabbagh, the former Iraqi government speaker. http://www.basnews.com/en/News/Details/President-Barzani-defends-the-region-s-oil-policy/16609 |

Gorran Demands Natural Resources Ministry Post![]() 02.04.2014 Hemin Salih In response to the Kurdistan Democratic Party’s (PDK) proposal for the allocation of ministerial positions in the formation of the new Kurdish Government, the Gorran Movement, runner-up in September’s parliamentary election in the South Kurdistan, has asked to be given the Ministry of Natural Resources. A source close to the negotiations has told BasNews that the Gorran Movement did not accept the ministries offered by the PDK, and has asked for the Ministry of Natural Resources instead. Ali Hussain, the PDK Presidency Council Member, said that the KDP proposals for the Gorran Movement are logical and realistic. In last September’s parliamentary election, the KDP won the election with 38 seats, followed by the Gorran Movement with 24 seats, and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) with 18 seats. Negotiators among the winners of the election have failed to reach an agreement for the formation of the new Kurdish cabinet. http://www.basnews.com/en/News/Details/Gorran-Demands-Natural-Resources-Ministry-Post/16690 |

I think if we include the Kurdish areas outside the official South Kurdistan it is even more than 45 billion. Kerkûk alone got 8-10 billion barrels if I'm not mistaken. We will get more influence when it comes to oil prices, but we will also lose freedom and reliability as an energy source (thus Norway and other petroleum producing nations not joining in). The question of OPEC is really interesting, and would love you guys to give a reason for your decisions/opinions (whether we should become part of OPEC or not) . |

Yes we must become OPEC member and yes Kurdish areas outside of KRG administration has 15-30 billion barrels so with 45 we should all have close to 60-70 billion barrels in reserve these are "recoverable" amounts

Refined Petroleum Of International Quality The refinery is currently one of two refineries in the Kurdistan region, consistently producing refined petroleum products of the highest order. This remarkable growth and productivity has enabled Qaiwan to expand the refinery and increase its output to 34,000 barrels a day. Located 25 km from Sulaimani, the refinery is currently one of only two refineries in the South Kurdistan and produces 34,000 barrels a day. Bazian Oil Refinery is currently undergoing an expansion programme, to increase its capacity to over 80,000 barrels a day by 2018. Bazian refinery |

Kurdish oil divides US and Russia![]() 03.04.2014 Kurdo Shaban To Saudi Arabia’s benefit and Russia’s detriment, the majority of international oil companies in the South Kurdistan come from the United States and United Kingdom. According to a Saudi report, due to an increase in Iraqi oil output, Saudi Arabia has decreased its oil export from 9.918 million b/d to 9.767 million b/d to keep the oil price from falling. The report states that Saudi Arabia does not want its oil export to decrease further. Hussain al-Shahristani, the Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs has said recently that the Russian energy firm, Luke Oil, which operates in the West Qurna-2 field in southern Iraq, has increased oil production to 420 million barrels. While the Iraqi Government plans to increase Iraqi oil production to 4 million b/d with the addition of Kurdish oil, the South Kurdistan is insisting on retaining control of its own reserves and exporting via KOMO, its own oil exporting company. Al-Shahristani said that last month they exported 3.5 million b/d and they could increase this further if the South Kurdistan submitted its oil to the Iraqi oil ministry. Analysts believe that the introduction of Kurdish oil into the market is in the interests of oil producing countries because of the increase in demand, especially in China and the US. The same analysts believe that the introduction of Kurdish oil will benefit Saudi Arabia because it will not undermine the country’s export superiority. In the same way, Kurdish oil’s entry into the market may be against Russia’s interests. http://www.basnews.com/en/News/Details/Kurdish-oil-divides-US-and-Russia-/16777 |

Baghdad has two conditions for Erbil oil export 05.04.2014 Mewan Dolamari BasNews, Erbil Advisor to Iraqi Prime Minister, Ali al-Musawi announced that the federal government of Iraq has put two conditions on accepting the suggestion of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) regarding the exportation of 100,000 oil barrels per day through Baghdad. Musawi said: “the two conditions are in the draft law of Iraq’s budget for 2014, the first asks the KRG to export 100,000 oil barrels per day and to continue with this exportation. The second one is forming a mutual committee between KRG and the federal government to investigate the real capacity of oil production in the South Kurdistan.” Musawi mentioned that KRG previously promised to export 400,000 oil barrels each day, yet the KRG now claims it does not have the ability to export that amount, for this reason Baghdad wants to form this committee. This has happened after the Iraqi budget law for 2013 was not approved in Iraqi Parliament due to the articles regarding the oil export by the KRG. Due to this disagreement between Erbil and Baghdad, the salary of the KRG’s staff was delayed while the March salary has yet to be received. http://www.basnews.com/en/News/Details/Baghdad-has-two-conditions-for-Erbil-oil-export/16915 |
