nopeKurdistan stops oil transfers to Iraq's SOMO June 3 (Reuters) - Iraq's semi-autonomous region of Kurdistan is shipping oil to the Turkish port of Ceyhan but has stopped transferring crude to Iraqi state oil firm SOMO, two shipping sources told Reuters on Wednesday. The suspension comes after months of tensions between Kurdistan and Baghdad over oil sales and budget payments. KRG PM: Kurdistan can sell oil without Baghdad approval Hewlêr, Kurdistan Region — The Kurdistan Regional Government can directly export its oil to world markets without going through Baghdad, Kurdistan region Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani claimed following a meeting with other Kurdish factions Wednesday. In the meeting that was held to discuss Iraq and Kurdistan region affairs, Barzani shared the KRG’s stance on recent negotiations with authorities in Baghdad. All political party representatives attended the meeting. They also shared their views about Baghdad-Erbil agreements regarding oil and budget shares. The KRG exported over 17.9 million barrels of crude oil—an average of 557,621 barrels per day—in the month of May, said The Ministry of Oil and Natural Resources in a statement released earlier this month. According to the latest Baghdad-Erbil agreement, the KRG should send only 550,000 bpd through the Kurdistan pipelines to Ceyhan in Turkey. As stated in the latest oil and budget agreement on the Kurdistan and Kirkuk oilfields, Baghdad must pay the KRG 1.2 trillion Iraqi dinars, worth more than $1 billion. However, the Baghdad government has been consistently short on its end of the deal, paying only $409 million in April. http://rudaw.net/english/kurdistan/170620154 |

^^^ Yes we can but we aren't (at this moment). If we sold our oil independently the price of Iraqi Dinars would increase. Meaning that the poor people will be negatively effected. However if we ditch Iraqi Dinars and start using US dollars in our daily lives we won't be effected. That's what an economist told me, any one care to extrapolate on this? |

Being bound to Iraqi dinar at this moment doesn't affect KRG economy negatively in that aspect. Dependant on the kurdish economy a low valued currency helps the economy in the long term and especially those who are poor. Countries who has a lot of natural resources which they export gets an expensive currency as a result. Having an expensive currency makes produced goods more expensive on the international market. Thus the end result usually being that the only goods that the nation sells is the natural resources, as other local companies have difficulties competing internationally with a such high valued currency. Having an expensive currency on the other hands makes international goods cheaper from your perspective meaning you afford larger quantities of arms, infrastructure and building projects for instance. Or, the country could invest in foreign companies as it in a way gets cheap. Generally the poor benefits from having jobs. As the oil industry doesn't provide many jobs and hinders local production heavily expensive currencies damages those the most. |

KRG’s Regional Council for Oil and Gas Affairs Meets with the Political Parties![]() June 17, 2015 The Regional Council for Oil and Gas Affairs of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) met today, June 17, 2015 with the five political parties in the Kurdistan Regional Government. In the meeting, they discussed the recent developments on oil issues between the KRG and Federal Government and highlighted the fact that while the KRG is fully committed to the agreement and Iraq’s 2015 Budget Law, Iraq’s Federal Government is not committed. The meeting agreed the following points: 1- The KRG strives to solve all its problems with Baghdad through dialogue and discussion and in light of Iraq’s Federal Budget Law No. (2) of 2015, because this is in the interest of the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. 2- If Iraq’s Federal Government does not commit to the Federal Budget Law, the KRG is obliged to consider other solutions to provide for the livelihoods of the Kurdistan Region’s people and to solve the financial and economic crisis of the Kurdistan Region, as legally provided for within the framework of Kurdistan Parliament’s Law No. (5) of 2013. 3- The political parties support the KRG taking any decisions to help solve the financial and economic crises, and to provide for the livelihoods of the Kurdistan Region’s people, especially since the fight against terrorism (ISIS) and the sheltering of a large number of refugees and IDPs have increased the burden on the Kurdistan Region. 4- Even if any decision is taken to solve the crisis, the KRG still hopes to solve its problems with Baghdad through dialogue, discussion and understanding. At no time does the KRG intend to cut its ties with Baghdad, because Iraq has geographic, social, economic, trade and political dimensions for the Kurdistan Region. http://mnr.krg.org/index.php/en/press-releases/461-krg-s-regional-council-for-oil-and-gas-affairs-met-with-the-political-parties |

Ur exaggerating. Goran fitnabaze. Goran is always creating troubles, always talking about negativity. You cant turn on KNN without these cry babies crying over every little thing. It's funny because when they were filming at a gas station in Slemani, the big fatties complaining were all drying huge cars that are at least $40,000 each. Always complaining, never satsified. There is a f**king war going on. Of course there is fuel shortage. Slemani has like 1.4 million inhabitants and there are like 700,000 registered cars. Every home has 2-3 cars in front of their door, and none of the cars in Kurdistan are ecofriendly. They are all driving huge cars that need a lot of fuel. Let them come to Europe and work here for a day. They wont be complaining after having to pay taxes, when they see electricity and gas costs, insurance costs, etc. Almost everyone complaining has bigger pockets than the average European. And I am not talking about masuls only, including the ones shown on KNN. If they want improvement, they should get ready to pay 30-60% taxes like Europeans do. But no, they want to get money and don't pay any taxes. They don't realise how good they have it. Do these clowns even realise A WAR IS GOING ON? What do they want? That we turn Kurdistan, that has been war thorn for 100's of years, into Sweden within 2 years?! Some Kurds are unbelievable |

WWBOY it's easy for you living in EU, if you too were living in KRG with no income, no fuel and no electricity you won't be saying all those above... War or not war, 2011-2012 there no war and same issue, you know very lil best to gather more info before you argue about these things. I don't even wTch KNN, I don't need to watch TV to know what is going on in Kurdistan I don't know about you I have plenty of relatives back home, and I thought you claimed to be from Suli!!?? Suli's don't say Fitnabaz I'm half one myself, where are you really from??? Finally if you think KRG has it so nice why are you in EU? Don't talk about war it's only been going one for one year now... |

My grandma is originally from Slemani. Her side of family were the original city people of Slemani and their presence goes back to the foundation of the city. And they are rare, like 95% of people living in Slemani are not originally from Slemani but from other parts of Kurdistan who settled there over the course of centuries. ANd yes, people in Slemani do say that, many ppl in my family say it how do u think I know the word? Many people in my family have fought in Slemani during 1991 and prior to the revolution in the Tanzimat, including my father. Some of the judges in the Saddam trials are neighbours of my family members. And some of the projects advertised on Kurdish tv channels, like the Goyzja apartments, were investments of family members. We also have a 7 decade old store in the city centre of Slemani, not far away from the famous tea shop. It doesn't get more central or ''prime location'' than that. And like mentioned before; it has been in the family for 70+ years! When the store was bought by my grandfather, Slemani was the size of a town! We are basically the natives of Slemani, doesn't really get better than that. Doesn't change anything about the fact that many Kurds are always complaining. They think money grows on trees in Europe, they don't know how good they have it. There are like 5,000 - 10,000 millionaires in Slemani nowadays, prior to 2003 only 12. Yes, 12. No way those 10k millionaires are all masuls or corrupt politicians, entire Kurdistan doesn't even have that many masuls. Edited by Worldwar2boy, Jun 23 15, 1:03.

Halabja are trouble makers. It's the Islamists who do this. Everytime a demo starts, it's always in Halabja and surrounding areas. And guess what? Those are the Islamist areas of Kurdistan. Remember the demo in Suli when people got shot? Also organised by mullahs/ Islamists. Young ppl were praying, just mimicking the protests in Egypt lead by Muslim Brotherhood. And guess what these mullahs think about Kurdistan and our leaders? Hint: they refuse to stand up for Ey Reqib! They are trouble makers and need to be dealt with harshly and fiercely. They are a tiny minority, maybe 1%, but they have big mouths and KNN, the tv channel of Iran, allows them to speak on national tv. |

South Kurdistan ramps up independent oil sales![]() ERBIL-Hewler, Kurdistan region ‘KRG,— Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdistan region has ramped up independent oil sales since mid-June while cutting allocations to Iraq’s state oil firm SOMO in an escalating dispute over export rights and budget payments. Kurdistan has sold at least 9 million barrels of oil in 11 tankers from the Turkish port of Ceyhan so far in June, according to shipping data and traders, compared to 5 million it allocated to SOMO in early June after which transfers largely stopped. June became the first month of large independent sales since December last year, when Kurdistan agreed a deal with Baghdad to transfer up to 550,000 barrels per day to SOMO in exchange for Baghdad allocating Hewlêr 17 percent of budget payments. The deal has faced troubles ever since with Baghdad accusing Hewlêr of allocating smaller-than-agreed amount of oil and Hewlêr saying Baghdad is paying less than a half of what is due. Neither side has yet called the deal dead but the blame game has continued for weeks. “Unfortunately the (Kurdistan) region has not complied with it until now,” Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said in his weekly address on Sunday. That followed a statement from the government of Kurdistan (KRG) earlier in June in which is said it remained committed to oil transfers to SOMO but accused Baghdad of reneging on the deal. “If Iraq’s federal government does not commit to the federal budget law, the KRG is obliged to consider other solutions to provide for the livelihoods of the Kurdistan region’s people and to solve the financial and economic crisis,” it said. The KRG said its need for money was especially acute given the fight against Islamic State militants and the sheltering of a large number of refugees from Syria and Iraq. Kurdistan’s independent shipments have created havoc at Ceyhan where tankers – which were previous meant to be loading oil from SOMO – have been queuing for weeks. Last week, BP and Cepsa cancelled loadings due to a lack of oil in SOMO’s tanks and this week Total, Kogas and Gazprom Neft cancelled their loadings. Meanwhile, Kurdish independent exports have returned to the patterns seen in 2014, when oil sailed in tankers of shipping company United mainly to the Israeli port of Ashkelon from where oil was resold back to the Mediterranean market. “The buyers are mainly those who don’t have ties with SOMO,” a trading source involved in the process said. http://ekurd.net/iraqi-kurdistan-ramps-up-independent-oil-sales-2015-06-29 |

Gulf Keystone Petroleum signs oil sales contract in South Kurdistan LONDON,— Gulf Keystone Petroleum has signed a six-month contract with a crude oil buyer in South Kurdistan, it said on Monday, boosting the cash flow prospects of a company that is still owed oil payments from the autonomous government. Under the new contract, Gulf Keystone will supply between 12,000 and 40,000 barrels of oil per day (bpd) to an unnamed local buyer, the company said. The oil producer has already received a $4.9 million payment for first oil deliveries to the unnamed buyer, it said. The deal will help Gulf Keystone to strengthen its balancesheet, which it said recorded a cash position of $68.7 millionas of June 26. The oil company is continuing discussions with the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) to establish a regular payment plan for crude oil purchases, it said. The Shaikan oil field operated by Gulf Keystone is now producing more than 40,000 bpd after fixing a technical glitch, the company said. http://ekurd.net/gulf-keystone-signs-oil-sales-contract-in-iraqi-kurdistan-2015-06-29 |

KRG Publishes the Monthly Export Report for June 2015![]() Hewlêr, Kurdistan Region, Iraq - The Kurdistan Regional Government today publishes the Monthly Export Report for June 2015. The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) exported 17,130,639 barrels of crude oil (an average of 571,021 barrels per day (bpd)) in the month of June through the Kurdistan pipeline network to the port of Ceyhan in Turkey. Of this amount, fields operated by the KRG contributed 12,740,711 barrels (424,690 bpd on average), while fields operated by the North Oil Company (NOC) contributed 4,389,928 barrels (an average of 146,331 bpd). In June, the KRG supplied SOMO in Ceyhan with 4,493,334 barrels (average of 149,778 bpd). Due to circumstances beyond the KRG’s control, during June there were 45 hours of downtime for the export pipeline. In June, the KRG was obliged to increase direct oil sales due to the significant debt backlog arising from the budget cuts of 2014 imposed by the federal government, and the need to pay down debts accumulated in 2014 from pre-payments for oil sales — sales that kept the Region financially afloat at a crucial time for the security and stability of Kurdistan and Iraq. This year, the difficult economic situation facing the Region has been exacerbated by the partial payments made to the KRG by the federal government. Nevertheless, the KRG remains committed to the 2015 federal Budget Law in its entirety. It will continue to work with its counterparts in Baghdad to reach a resolution on all the outstanding issues of oil and gas as described in the joint statement of June 17, 2015 by the KRG’s Regional Council for Oil and Gas Affairs and the five political parties in the Kurdistan Regional Government http://mnr.krg.org/index.php/en/press-releases/462-krg-publishes-the-monthly-export-report-for-june-2015 The entire report has been attached. |
