Fri Sep 27, 2013 5:37am EDT (Reuters) - NATO member Turkey has chosen a Chinese defence firm that has been hit by U.S. sanctions to co-produce a $4 billion long-range air and missile defence system, rejecting rival bids from Russian, U.S. and European firms. The Turkish defence minister announced the decision to award the contract to China Precision Machinery Import and Export Corp (CPMIEC) in a statement on Thursday. In February, the United States announced sanctions on CPMIEC for violations of the Iran, North Korea and Syria Nonproliferation Act. |

I like this comment "NATO will punish Turkey and things will continue to sour and escalate in the coming years . Already an immature Turkish officer slapped a German female military policewoman and provided improper sanitary conditions for the German soldiers that were protecting weak Turkey with Patriot batteries from ferocious Assad. Not to mention in the past the fracas the fake secular Turkish military caused over the ascension of Fogh Rasmussen as NATO General Secretary because he refused to censor or punish the Danish press during the infamous Danish cartoon crisis. Also ANkara's feud with Israel will ensure that the Jewish lobby in the USA, which previously served Turkish interests, will look to use this latest development to their advantage. Turks are just deadset on causing endless problems for NATO interests, they just keep escalating and eventually powerful NATO member states like the USA will really punish Turkey. In the long-term Turkey will definitely be kicked out as they are still the wannabe Caliphate leaders of the backward Mahometans against the dominant West, they always were and will be". http://www.network54.com/Forum/248068/thread/1381917994/last-1381956366/POLL%3B+Do+you+think+Turkey+is+on+collision+course+with+NATO- |

With all due respect, I think you're underestimating Turkey's ability to stand on its own feet if it really has to, and the sacrifices they're prepared to make to protect their interests. Whatever their laziness and history of voluntarily depending on the West, it's not like they don't have their own skilled workforce and technological base, as well as many domestic natural resources to fall back on.

They have something, but wouldn't it be easier to liberate bakur without all of Nato coming after us? It certainly would. And don't forget that Kurds are growing in numbers, we will outnumber the Turks soon enough

They are underestimating but surely you are overestimating. Turkey has absolutely nothing to offer NATO anymore. Second biggest army here or there. i-rack had the third biggest army in the world and was better equipped than Turkey now and they were crushed within a month. If Turkey really wanted to upset NATO (What they most likely won't because they fear the NATO more than they respect them) this would mean their end. Turkey is a virgin in technological base. 90% of their equipment is foreign made. But the problem is NATO will most likely close an eye on them because they are too lazy and don't care about such a " unnecessary thing". Only Israel will most likely confront Turkey with this.
